چکیده

As estimators of location parameters, univariate trimmed means are well-known for their robustness and efficiency. They can serve as robust alternatives to the sample mean while possessing high efficiencies at normal as well as heavy tailed models. This paper introduces multi-dimensional trimmed means based on projection depth induced regions. Robustness of these depth trimmed means is investigated in terms of influence function and finite sample breakdown point. The influence function captures the local robustness whereas the breakdown point measures the global robustness of estimators. It is found that the projection depth trimmed means are highly robust locally as well as globally. Asymptotics of the depth trimmed means are investigated via those of the directional radius of the depth induced regions. The strong consistency, asymptotic representation, and limiting distribution of the depth trimmed means are obtained. Relative to the mean and other leading competitors, the depth trimmed means are highly efficient at normal or symmetric models and overwhelmingly more efficient when these models are contaminated. Simulation studies confirm the validity of the asymptotic efficiency results at finite samples.

Performance comparison of land change modeling techniques for land use projection of arid watersheds

The change of land use/land cover has been known as an imperative force in environmental alteration, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. This research was mainly aimed to assess the validity of two major types of land change modeling techniques via a three dimensional approach in Birjand urban watershed located in an arid climatic region of Iran. Thus, a Markovian approach based on two suit...

Tukey Depth-based Multivariate Trimmed Means

We investigate the asymptotic behavior of two types of Tukey depth-based multivariate trimmed means. Sufficient conditions for asymptotic normality of these location estimators are given. Two approaches to trimming are distinguished and central limit theorems are derived for each one. Asymptotic normality is proved using Hadamard differentiability of the location functionals. In the one-dimensi...

Exactly computing bivariate projection depth contours and median

Among their competitors, projection depth and its induced estimators are very favorable because they can enjoy very high breakdown point robustness without having to pay the price of low e ciency, meanwhile providing a promising centeroutward ordering of multi-dimensional data. However, their further applications have been severely hindered due to their computational challenge in practice. In t...

Profilometry without phase unwrapping using multi-frequency and four-step phase-shift sinusoidal fringe projection.

A three-dimensional (3D) profilometry method without phase unwrapping is proposed. The key factors of the proposed profilometry are the use of composite projection of multi-frequency and four-step phase-shift sinusoidal fringes and its geometric analysis, which enable the proposed method to extract the depth information of even largely separated discontinuous objects as well as lumped continuou...

Evaluation of hooves’ morphometric parameters in different hoof trimming times in dairy cows

Wide variety of timings and techniques has been used based on the housing, production, availability of requirements etc. This current study was done for a morphologic evaluation of the cow's digit in different trimming times. A dairy herd with 2200 milking cow, free stalls barns, average daily production of 36 liters per cow was selected. Forty cows were assigned to four groups based on hoof tr...
